OUR HISTORY

The Baltimore Homeless Project was born from the heart of Baltimore, founded by three local individuals Wanye’ Brown, his older cousin: Terence Watts, and childhood friend: Jordan Dixon who saw a need and chose to act. In December 2019, what started as a small effort among friends to serve meals, hand out essentials, and connect with the unhoused quickly turned into a movement rooted in consistency, compassion, and community. Creating a movement bigger than us, we show the youth ways to help others and offer community service hours and leadership skills.

We didn’t wait for perfect conditions or a big budget just the heart to serve, the belief that everyone deserves dignity, and the will to act. Our selfless commitment laid the foundation for what has now become a growing nonprofit working year-round to help those experiencing homelessness across the city.

OUR IMPACT IN BALTIMORE

In January 2024, over 1,400 people were experiencing homelessness in Baltimore. At The Baltimore Homeless Project, we’re committed to showing up with care, consistency, and compassion. In 2024 alone, we’ve served over 1,500 hot meals, given 120 free haircuts, distributed 500+ hygiene kits, and helped connect people to shelters during extreme weather.

Through our Lunch on Us and Mobile Services programs, we meet people where they are with food, resources, and hope. Every act of service is a step toward dignity and change.

LOOKING AHEAD

We’re working toward:

• Expanding Mobile Outreach

We plan to grow our BHP Mobile Services to reach more underserved areas throughout Baltimore City and into the county bringing hot meals, hygiene kits, and hope directly to the streets.

• Building Stronger Partnerships

We’re actively connecting with local organizations, schools, and service providers to create a more unified network of support ensuring that those we serve aren’t just seen once, but are supported long-term.

• Launching Transitional Support Programs

In the future, we hope to develop transitional housing opportunities, workforce development efforts, and wellness programs that go beyond the basics giving people the tools to rebuild, reset, and rise.

• Investing in Youth & Community Healing

Homelessness isn’t just an issue of housing it’s a symptom of deeper systemic challenges. That’s why we’re also exploring ways to engage with at-risk youth and support mental health and healing in our neighborhoods.

Our vision is bold, but our belief is stronger: Baltimore can be a city where no one is left behind.

With community, consistency, and care we’re building something bigger than us. And we’re inviting everyone to be a part of it.
